How to use EZCapsule

Add the clothes you own, pick a capsule template, and see your gaps and how many outfits you can make.

What it does

EZCapsule builds a capsule wardrobe from what you already own. A template lists the pieces a capsule needs; your items fill them, and what is left over shows as a gap. The aim is to buy less: most gaps can be marked as not needed.

Get started

  1. Open Sign in and enter your email

    Tick the box to confirm you are 18 or older and agree to the terms, then choose "Email me a sign-in link". You must be 18 or older to use the app; the box is there during the beta too.

  2. Open the link in the email within 15 minutes

    Each link works once. Ask for a new one if it has expired.

  3. Answer "What kind of capsule?" by choosing a template card

    The templates are Minimal 30, Work week, Carry-on travel 10, Warm season, Cold season, Mid-life mothers, Western Gen Z adult.

  4. Tick the pieces you own on the starter checklist, then choose Add

    Your capsule opens with its filled slots, its gaps and the outfit count.

Add items

  1. Open My closet and use the Quick add form

    Choose the category, the color (each swatch shows its name), the seasons and the formality.

  2. Give the item a name if you like (up to 60 characters)

    A name is optional; without one the item shows as its color and category.

  3. Choose Add item; the choices stay set for the next piece

    Adding a run of similar pieces takes one tap each.

  4. Select an item in My closet to edit it, record wear or delete it

  5. Enter the price paid to see the cost per wear

    Price paid is optional, in dollars, on Quick add and on the item page. The item page then shows "Cost per wear": the price divided by the times worn (an item not worn yet counts as one wear).

Photos and privacy

  1. Photos are optional: photograph the item, not yourself

    Lay the piece flat or hang it up. Do not upload photos of other people or of children.

  2. Open an item and choose a photo under Photo

    Your phone turns it upright, shrinks it and removes location and camera data before upload.

  3. Photos are private to your account and shown only to you

Capsules and gaps

A capsule shows each template slot filled by your items, with the color name beside every swatch. A dashed card is a gap: a slot still open.

  1. Under a gap, choose "Do you own something like this?"

    Quick add opens prefilled from the slot; add the piece and you return to the capsule.

  2. Choose "Mark as not needed" for gaps you can live without

    The gap stops counting. Choose "Mark as needed" to bring it back.

  3. Open "Edit this capsule" to rename it or change how many of each piece

  4. For a new season, open "Copy or change season" on Your capsules

    Your items carry over to the new capsule, which shows its own gaps.

The outfit count

The number at the top of a capsule is how many outfits its filled pieces make: every top with every bottom, plus each dress, times each pair of shoes.

Layering options
Jackets, coats and layers go over any outfit, so they show as "plus N layering options" instead of multiplying the count.
No shoes yet
Until a shoe slot is filled, the count is shown without shoes and a note says so.
Outfit gain
Each gap says how many more outfits filling it would make.

Shopping list (works offline)

  1. Choose "Add to shopping list" on a gap you really need to fill

  2. Open Shopping list once while online

    Your phone keeps a copy, so the list opens in a store with no signal.

  3. Tick a piece off when you find it

    Ticking and removing need a connection.

Suggestions and disclosure

The gap list shows two to four suggestions per gap: what to look for and where. They come after "Mark as not needed" and "Add to shopping list", because buying is the last resort.

Ads and the ad-free tier

EZCapsule is free. Ads may appear later, only on pages without your photos: templates, the gap list, the shopping list and the guides. Your closet, items and capsule pages never show ads.

Common problems

  1. Sign-in link expired or already used → ask for a new one

    Links last 15 minutes and work once. Check your spam folder too.

  2. "Save the photo as JPEG and try again" → do that, then choose it again

    Some phones save HEIC photos that the browser cannot read.

  3. "Still carries camera or location data" → choose the photo again in the app

    The app removes that data before upload; a photo sent another way is refused.

  4. "Photos must be 2 MB or smaller" → choose the photo in the app, not a file copy

    The app shrinks photos before upload.

  5. Shopping list will not open offline → open it once while online

    Each new sign-in clears the saved copy, so open it again after signing in.

  6. Cannot add more items → the free plan holds 300; delete some first

Export and delete your data

  1. Download everything (JSON) or CSV files in Settings

    The CSV downloads cover your items, your capsules and your shopping list. Export is free on every plan.

  2. A zip of your photos is coming later

    It will be built in the background. The download link arrives by email and on the Settings page. Each zip is available for 7 days and deleted within 14 days.

  3. Untick "Share anonymous usage data" in Settings to turn off analytics

  4. Delete your account and all its data in Settings

    Items, photos, capsules and the shopping list are deleted at once, always within 24 hours. This cannot be undone.
